4 Tips to Power Your Life Insurance Business Website

Your website is the ultimate traffic-driver. But if you’re not a techie, you’re probably hard-pressed for time to figure out what you should do, nor are you savvy enough to take on the changes yourself. You’re not alone!

There’s good news for non-technical insurance agents like you.

Improving search engine optimization (SEO) doesn’t require only making adjustments on the backend of your website.

There’s a lot you can do to get more traffic that’s simple enough for insurance experts to take on.

Here’s what you can do.

1. Make your content great

If you put out fabulous content, they will come. Great articles will attract people because they’re informational and educational. Search engines will love quality content, articles that solve problems and so forth.

So don’t worry about following a bunch of rules about stuffing your articles with keywords. Instead, just write about things that your average customer would want to know. Use that as your guide.

2. Use pics

Images are one of the best SEO-boosters. That’s because they give search engines more content to crawl, the image itself will show in searches, and website visitors love images.

You’ll want to optimize your images when you load them on your blogs and website. Here are a few rules to follow:

  • Use a keyword in the title for the image. It should be along the same lines as the keyword you use for the article itself.
  • Use a variation of that keyword for the “alt tag”  –  the label for the field where you can add a text description for an image.
  • If you can, add a caption.
  • When you write a blog, use several images, and make sure each page has at least one image.

3. Build SEO with links

One of the best ways to improve your site’s SEO, building internal links to your website will help boost your site’s visibility.

While external links  –  links that you get from other authoritative sites  –  are hard to come by and take time to build, you can start building internal links  –  from other pages on your website  –  right away.

For example, if you post a blog about how to shop for a competitive quote, include some links in the article that point readers to other blogs or pages on your website. That’s internal linking.

To get external links, there are two approaches you can use. First, write great content, and other websites will notice and start linking to it. You can also contact other businesses, build partnerships, and request an external link.

4. Use longer keywords

When you create a list of keywords to target, keep this rule of thumb in mind: Longer is better.

So instead of “buy insurance,” opt for “how to buy life insurance.

Or instead of “life insurance,” try “life insurance quotes.”

Longer keywords are more descriptive, and they’ll help you target people who are more closely aligned with what you have to offer.

For example, if you sell life insurance, you don’t want traffic that’s looking for auto insurance.

Nor do you want to attract people to an article about insurance for teens if they’re a senior. Get the idea?

Boost your life insurance business site

You don’t have to be passive about optimizing your website for traffic. Work with an expert when you can to boost SEO on the backend. But there’s lots you can do to increase SEO on the front end, publishing great content, using photos, linking, and using longer keywords.

Got it? Good. You're more of a techie than you think!
